What Happens at Our French Lunchtime Club?
Lunchtime Club is a safe and friendly space where children can relax and enjoy their break together while discovering French in a different way.
Each session uses interactive activities to encourage pupils to listen, speak and take part. Rather than making lunchtime feel like another formal lesson, we introduce French through enjoyable experiences that give children opportunities to use new words and phrases in context.
Activities can include:
- French games and quizzes
- Songs and storytelling
- Mini role plays
- Vocabulary activities
- Creative and cultural themes
- Topics such as French food, famous places, artists and traditions
One session might introduce pupils to language used in a French café, while another could explore the sights of Paris through art and drama. The aim is to make French approachable, memorable and enjoyable.
Schools looking for more structured curriculum provision can also explore our MFL French teaching for KS1 & KS2.
Who Can Join the Lunchtime Club?
The club is open to pupils across different year groups and is designed to welcome children with varying levels of French experience.
It can appeal to enthusiastic language learners as well as curious pupils who simply want to try something different during their lunch break. Children do not need to be confident French speakers to take part. Activities are designed to encourage participation in a supportive setting where pupils can practise without feeling under pressure.
Around 15 children can join the club. This smaller setting makes it easier for pupils to feel comfortable, included and able to participate.
Building Confidence Beyond the Classroom
French language enrichment gives pupils another opportunity to hear and use French outside their usual lessons.
Through regular games, songs, stories and conversation, children can reinforce familiar vocabulary while encountering new language in meaningful situations. The informal club environment also gives pupils more opportunities to speak, experiment with pronunciation and associate French with positive experiences.
Cultural activities are an important part of our approach too. Introducing children to French food, places, traditions and everyday life helps them understand that learning a language is about communicating with people and discovering another culture, not simply memorising vocabulary.
French Language Enrichment for Manchester Schools
English–French Language Academy is passionate about sharing French language and culture through engaging, high-quality teaching. Our founder was born and raised in Paris, bringing authentic French experience and cultural understanding to the academy’s approach.
We work with primary schools across Manchester and have developed our own Scheme of Work for structured MFL teaching, covering National Curriculum requirements through a creative, cross-curricular approach.
The Lunchtime Club offers schools a more informal enrichment option alongside this wider provision. Schools requiring regular curriculum teaching or PPA support can find out more about our MFL services for primary schools.
Lunchtime or After-School French Provision
Every school has different timetabling and enrichment needs. A lunchtime club provides an opportunity to introduce French within the school day without requiring pupils to stay later.
For schools that would prefer activities after lessons have finished, we also provide a dedicated French After-School Club.
